We do not currently have any plans to resume accepting applications and do not know if or when we will do so. If we decide to start accepting applications again, we will announce this decision on this page and with a blog post on the EA Forum.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are inspired by <a href=\"https:\/\/fastgrants.org\/\">Fast Grants<\/a> and aim to arrive at decisions on most proposals within 14 days. Much of the advice from Y Combinator\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ycombinator.com\/howtoapply\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHow to Apply\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> page is helpful, but bear in mind differences: we can supply funding (not training) at this stage, and we\u2019re aiming at impact rather than revenue.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>Please make your application as sincere as possible, and think about how it relates to our <a href=\"https:\/\/ftxfuturefund.org\/principles\/\">Principles<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ftxfuturefund.org\/area-of-interest\/\">Areas of Interest<\/a>. Sometimes people seeking funding make up highly tenuous stories about how their work is related to funder objectives. That just wastes everyone&#8217;s time. Please tell us what you really think, not what you think we want to hear.<\/p>\r\n<p>In order to distribute labor and keep ourselves focused, we don\u2019t accept applications seeking less than $100,000. We recommend submitting such applications to <a href=\"https:\/\/funds.effectivealtruism.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EA Funds<\/a> or the <a href=\"https:\/\/survivalandflourishing.fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Survival and Flourishing Fund<\/a>.<\/p>                    <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n                                                <div class=\"faq__item\">\n                    <div class=\"faq__item-question\">\n                        How long will it take to hear back?                        <svg width=\"13\" height=\"19\" viewBox=\"0 0 13 19\" fill=\"none\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\">\n  <path d=\"M9.79238 7.12528L2.83646 0L0.51709 2.37584L5.8335 7.82169L7.49993 9.50112L5.8335 11.1806L0.51709 16.6264L2.83646 19L9.79238 11.8747L12.1117 9.50112L9.79238 7.12528Z\" \/>\n<\/svg>\n                    <\/div>\n                    <div class=\"faq__item-answer\">\n                        <p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">aim to arrive at decisions on most proposals within 14 days<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (though in more complex cases, we might need more time).<\/span><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li aria-level=\"1\">If your grant request is under $1 million, we understand it, we like it, and we don&#8217;t see potential for major downsides, it&#8217;ll probably get approved within a week.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Sometimes, we won&#8217;t see an easy path to finding a strong fit, and you&#8217;ll get a quick negative decision.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Sometimes we&#8217;re just missing a little bit of information, and we&#8217;ll need to have a call with you to see if there&#8217;s a fit.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Larger grants and grants that affect whole communities require more attention, and will have a customized process.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>We try to avoid processes that take months and leave grantees unclear on when they&#8217;re going to reach a decision.<\/p>                    <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n                                                <div class=\"faq__item\">\n                    <div class=\"faq__item-question\">\n                        Do I need to be a longtermist\/effective altruist in order to apply?                        <svg width=\"13\" height=\"19\" viewBox=\"0 0 13 19\" fill=\"none\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\">\n  <path d=\"M9.79238 7.12528L2.83646 0L0.51709 2.37584L5.8335 7.82169L7.49993 9.50112L5.8335 11.1806L0.51709 16.6264L2.83646 19L9.79238 11.8747L12.1117 9.50112L9.79238 7.12528Z\" \/>\n<\/svg>\n                    <\/div>\n                    <div class=\"faq__item-answer\">\n                        <p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No! You don\u2019t need to be a longtermist or effective altruist, or subscribe to any particular philosophical view, in order to apply. However, you <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">should<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> be aware that our interest in your project will be a direct function of its potential to positively impact the long-term future of humanity and sentient life. You should be excited about pursuing a goal (like reducing the risk of human extinction) that can do this, and your proposal should be transparent and sincere about how you plan to do so.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>                    <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n                                                <div class=\"faq__item\">\n                    <div class=\"faq__item-question\">\n                        We are part of the effective altruism community, but we\u2019re focused on near-term improvements to the world, and don\u2019t think our work has long-run impacts. But we&#8217;re very in favor of what you&#8217;re doing! We encourage you to look into obtaining funding from sources such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/funds.effectivealtruism.org\/apply-for-funding\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EA Funds<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The FTX Foundation funds efforts to address the short-term and long-term effects of climate change through <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftx-climate.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FTX Climate<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and efforts to address global poverty, animal suffering, and other pressing problems through <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftxcommunity.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FTX Community<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Right now, FTX Climate and FTX Community aren\u2019t accepting requests for funding.
